5 Best Ways to Cure Dental Spasms

A temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is referred to as several problems with jaw movement and soreness in and around the jaw. These jaw joints join the lower jawbone (mandible) to the skull. They are used more than any other joint in the body. They allow the jaw to open and close for activities like talking, chewing, swallowing, yawning, etc.

There is no specific way to diagnose a temporomandibular disorder, your doctor will first check your condition with a physical exam and in some cases may suggest an MRI, X-Ray, or CT Scan.

Let’s see how you can cure dental spasms:-

1. Eat soft food: Eating soft food can help relax your jaw joint and may even assist in releasing the pain. Avoid eating foods like raw carrots, chewing gum, etc. Eating soft food like Yogurt, Mashed potatoes, Cottage cheese, Soup, eggs, and cooked vegetables can also decrease jaw strain.

2. An ice pack or moist heat: Some people think that a routine of ice and moist heat helps TMJ symptoms. It helps relax stretched muscles that may be the cause of spasms. Try to do this routine for about 10 minutes.

3. Exercise: Doing jaw exercises as approved by your doctor can also assist in relaxing a dental spasm. Avoiding things such as opening your mouth too wide can increase the pain.

4. Manage stress: Grinding or clenching your teeth, chewing your fingernails, biting your lips, etc can cause a dental tremor. Try to prevent these habits and loosen up your jaw, thus separating your teeth.5. Alter your body mechanics: Changing your body mechanics such as maintaining a good posture while sitting or sleeping, not slumping your shoulders, and avoiding your jaw to rest on your hand can help cure the pain and lessen the jaw strain.
