What Is Dental OPG X-Ray?
A Dental or digital OPG is a panoramic scanning dental X-ray of the upper and lower jaw. It shows a flattened two-dimensional view of a half-circle from ear to ear.
An orthopantomogram also shows where your teeth are located, how many years they’ve been there, and how much room you have left for new teeth.
It is different from the small close up x-ray’s dentists take of individual teeth. It shows less fine detail, but a way broader area of view.

OPG X Ray Advantage:
- Less Patient Radiation Dose
- coverage includes the temporomandibular joint and facial bones
- Ability to be used in patients who have difficulty opening their mouth
You will need to remove any jewellery or metallic items from around the head and neck area as it can interfere with the image. The OPG usually takes about 3 mins to finish.
